On 23.08.2026, IHM Taratala Kolkata had the honour of welcoming Dr. Shankar Ghosh, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Parliamentary Affairs & Tourism Department, Government of West Bengal, at EICA Culinary Kaizens 2.0, held at Milan Mela Prangan, Kolkata. Dr. Ghosh was warmly welcomed and felicitated by Mr. Raja Sadhukhan, Respected Principal, IHM Taratala Kolkata, following which he engaged in a detailed and meaningful interaction with Mr. Sadhukhan on hospitality education, culinary heritage and the tourism potential of West Bengal. The Hon’ble Minister addressed the gathering and subsequently attended the panel discussion on “Culinary Tourism: From Food Heritage to Global Destination.” Mr. Raja Sadhukhan was an eminent speaker on the panel and shared valuable perspectives on building “Bengal” as a brand through its rich and diverse culinary heritage. He highlighted the wide variety of culinary experiences that Bengal can bring to the guest’s plate, emphasising the need to position the state’s distinctive food traditions as an integral part of its tourism identity. Mr. Sadhukhan also strongly advocated for taking Bengal’s cuisine to the global platform, creating greater recognition for its culinary traditions and showcasing its diversity, authenticity and cultural depth to visitors from across the world. On 13.8.2026, IHM Taratala Kolkata organised an engaging Grooming Session in collaboration with Purplle.com, aimed at enhancing attendees’ awareness of personal grooming and professional presentation. A team of experienced specialists and makeup artists conducted an interactive session covering grooming essentials, makeup techniques, practical tips and useful tricks for both ladies and gentlemen. The demonstrations offered valuable insights into presenting oneself with confidence while maintaining a polished and professional appearance. The session received an enthusiastic response, with attendees finding it informative, practical and helpful in understanding the importance of grooming in both personal and professional settings.

On 14.8.26 as part of Anti-Ragging Week celebrations, IHM Taratala Kolkata organised a documentary viewing session to spread awareness on ragging and sensitise students about the serious consequences of ragging. The session encouraged students to reflect on the importance of empathy, respect and responsible behaviour, while reinforcing the institute’s commitment to maintaining a safe and ragging-free campus.

On 11.8.2026, students of IHM Taratala Kolkata, accompanied by faculty members, visited Lok Bhavan to witness the exclusive exhibition “Celebrating Freedom through Bengal”, showcasing the significant role of Bengal in India’s freedom struggle. The exhibition offered an enthralling and enriching experience, taking students through a remarkable collection of historical evidence, portraits and narratives that highlighted the contributions and sacrifices made by Bengal during India’s journey towards independence. For the students, the visit was not only an opportunity to revisit important chapters of India’s history but also a meaningful learning experience that deepened their appreciation of the region’s rich legacy in the freedom movement. IHM Taratala Kolkata expresses its gratitude for this opportunity, which enabled the students to connect with history beyond the classroom and gain a renewed sense of pride in Bengal’s invaluable contribution to the nation’s freedom struggle.

From 10.8.26 to 14.8.26 IHM Taratala Kolkata organised a Group Discussion and Personal Interview Training Session for the final-year students of the B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration. The intensive training was conducted by Mr. Vikram Kukreja, Founder, TBH Circle, who guided students through the nuances of effective communication, structured thinking, confidence building, group discussions and personal interviews. The sessions focused on equipping students with the skills and professional confidence required to successfully navigate recruitment processes and excel in their future hospitality careers. The initiative reflects IHM Taratala Kolkata’s continued commitment towards industry readiness, professional development and holistic career preparation of its students.

From 3.8.26 to 7.8.26 IHM Taratala Kolkata organised an exclusive five-day culinary training programme honouring the Hangla Heshel “Hnesheler Bhanumoti Serar Sera 2025” competition winners – Mrs. Jhumpa Karmakar and Mrs. Poulami Chakraborty. Under the inspiring guidance of Respected Principal, Mr. Raja Sadhukhan, the programme was designed to sharpen the winners’ culinary skills and provide them with hands-on exposure to the diverse world of professional cookery and bakery. The participants explored a delightful range of culinary techniques and preparations across Chocolate Work, Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines, gaining valuable practical experience under the guidance of the institute’s culinary experts. The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates and copies of Gourmet Nite 2026, celebrating their achievement and encouraging them to continue their culinary journey with confidence and creativity.

On 15.8.26, IHM Taratala Kolkata celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour, pride and a deep sense of national responsibility. The celebrations commenced with the National Flag being hoisted jointly by Respected Principal, Mr. Raja Sadhukhan, and Mr. Ajit Kumar Das, Electrician and the senior-most employee of the institute. The ceremony was followed by the soulful rendition of the National Song and the National Anthem, evoking a profound sense of unity, pride and responsibility towards the nation. As a premier legacy hospitality institute, IHM Taratala Kolkata remains committed to the cause of Nation Building, guided by its motto, “Service Before Self.” The celebration concluded with a warm breakfast service by Respected Principal Mr. Sadhukhan himself, bringing together students, faculty and staff in the true spirit of camaraderie, service and togetherness.

Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Kolkata celebrated the National Librarian’s Day on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of (Late) Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the esteemed Father of Library and Information Science by organizing a specialized User Awareness Workshop on ONOS tailored for the first and third-semester students of the M.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration (H&HA). The workshop was specifically designed to introduce M.Sc. in H&HA students to One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), a landmark initiative by the Government of India aimed at providing seamless access to scholarly research content for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) nationwide. Aligning closely with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP), ONOS extends it’s benefits to colleges, universities and research and development (R&D) organizations across the country. The initiative is being actively executed by INFLIBNET, an autonomous inter-university centre under the Ministry of Education. IHM Kolkata is the pioneer in using the Drillbit Plagiarism Software and the workshop highlighted the importance of fair use, copyright compliance, and plagiarism prevention in academic learning and research, thereby fostering a strong culture of academic integrity among the students. The session was conducted by Mrs. Sudipta Saha Gure, HOD of Rooms Division & Management Studies; Ms. Mahua Roy, Librarian & ONOS Nodal Officer and Mr. Ambarish Chatterjee, Faculty Member. The program concluded with an engaging quiz competition and the winners were felicitated with prizes, bringing the workshop to an enthusiastic, memorable, and meaningful close.

On 13.8.2026, IHM Taratala Kolkata had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Shekhar Mukherjee, distinguished alumnus of IHM Taratala Kolkata, class of 1984, for an insightful interaction with the final year students. A hospitality veteran with over 40 years of experience, Mr. Mukherjee spent 24 years with Taj SATS Air Catering Limited as General Manager before superannuating in March 2026. His long association with IHCL reflects his commitment to leadership, service excellence, and the hospitality profession.
Mr. Mukherjee engaged with the students by sharing experiences and lessons from his remarkable career, offering practical perspectives on the industry and encouraging them to approach their professional journey with dedication, passion, and a willingness to learn. Respected Principal Mr. Raja Sadhukhan thanked Mr. Mukherjee for returning to his alma mater and inspiring the next generation of hospitality professionals.
